 MAY WE NEVER GROW UP

SCRIPTURE READING: MATTHEW 18:1-6

 SCRIPTURE TEXT: Matthew 18:3

And said, Verily I say unto you, “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven”.

INTRO: Have you ever been in the midst of a difficult situation and wished that you were a little child again and could crawl into your mother’s or father’s lap and just be loved?

As we grow older we become more and more independent of our parents.

Sadly this also can be true in our relationship with God.

Jesus said, “Except ye be converted…” the word converted means: turn quite around or reverse, turn back again.

Jesus is telling us that we need to become as children again, in our relationship with God, if we are ever going to enjoy the kingdom of heaven.

There are several child like traits that I wish to share with you that will enable us to enjoy the kingdom of heaven.

 1. CHILD LIKE FAITH.

NOTE: A Child believes that there parents can do anything.

They fail to see the limitations of their parents.

We must that same kind of faith towards God.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

A child’s faith has not limits.

Jeremiah 32:17 Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

 2. CHILD LIKE LOVE.

NOTE: A child’s love is not based on its parent’s looks, wealth, or abilities; they just love their parents because they are their parents.

We should love God in the same way.  Not for what He can do for us, but rather because of whom He is.

Luke 7:36-39 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.  And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, and stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.  Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

A child is not ashamed of its love.

We should never be ashamed to tell others of our love for God.

A child will brag on its parents.

When was the last time you bragged on God?

3. CHILD LIKE FEAR.

Psalm 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Psalm 33:8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

NOTE: We are not talking about being afraid of their parents but rather being afraid of how their actions will affect their parents.

 4. CHILD LIKE DEPENDENCE.

NOTE: A child is totally dependant on its parents.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

A child is not concerned about its physical needs because they know that their parents will provide whatever they need.

Matthew 6:31-33 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Are we able to trust God for all our needs as a child trusts their parents?

 5. CHILD LIKE TRUST.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

ILL: Little girl standing in the roof’s gutter.

Job 23:8-10 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: on the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: but he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

 6. CHILD LIKE JOY.

NOTE: Do you remember watching your children or grandchildren open their presents on Christmas?

A child like joy is not dependant on the cost of the gift.

Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We must recognize that it is God that gives us all the blessing we have and it must produce joy in our hearts.

Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

One of the greatest joys a child can have is spending time with their parents.

Spending time with our heavenly Father should fill our hearts and lives with joy.

CONCLUSION: I want to remain a child in my relationship with my heavenly Father.

LIVING IN THE SHADOW OF GOD’S WINGS

 SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 63:1-11

 SCRIPTURE TEXT: Psalm 63:7

Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

INTRO: When you are faced with a difficult situation, where do you turn for help and strength?

Many turn to the arm of flesh, only to find disappointment and defeat.

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!

God has called us into a rest in Him but too often we rebel and seek our rest in the things of this world.

Isaiah 30:1-3 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: that walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!  Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

Isaiah 30:15-16 For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

The wings of God enable us to rejoice in the times of trouble and difficulties.

Psalm 63:7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

This psalm was written by David when he was in the wilderness of Judah fleeing from his son, Absalom.

The desert is a harsh and dry place where the heat of the sun and the barrenness of the surroundings can cause great despair.

David may have been in the midst of a desert but there was no desert in his heart.

David found rest and peace by living in the shadow of God’s wings.

What will living in the shadow of God’s wings do for us?

  1. GOD’S WINGS WILL DELIVER US IN THE TIME OF TROUBLE.

Exodus 19:4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

NOTE: The Children of Israel were between the devil and the deep red sea, but God delivered them on eagle wings.

  1. GOD’S WINGS WILL LIFT US TO HIGHER HEIGHTS.

Deuteronomy 32:11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

NOTE: Most of us, if we were to have our own way, would stay the way were are spiritually, but God will stir us up by making our bed of ease uncomfortable and lifting us to new heights on His eagle wings.

  1. GOD’S WINGS WILL GIVE US STRENGTH IN TIMES OF TRIALS.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

NOTE: God did not promise us an easy passage but He did promise us a safe one.

When we become weary and tired, God will strength us with His wings and grant us rest.

  1. GOD’S WINGS BRINGS HEALING INTO OUR LIVES.

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

NOTE: One of the greatest gifts God offers His children; is the healing power found in His wings.

Ezekiel 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

·         Healing from the sickness of sin

Psalm 41:4 I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.

·         Healing from broken relationships

Hosea 6:1 Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

·         Healing from emotional hurts

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

 ·         Healing from physical sickness

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

  1. GOD’S WINGS WILL PROVIDE A HIDING PLACE DURING THE ONSLAUGHT OF THE ENEMY.

Psalm 17:8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

ILL: The mother hen and the prairie fire.

Psalm 57:1 Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

  1. GOD’S WINGS IS A PLACE WE CAN TRUST AND FIND REST.

Psalm 36:7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

Psalm 61:4  I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

Psalm 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

CONCLUSION: Come and live in the shadow of God’ wings and find rest for your weary soul.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

THE REALITY OF HELL

 SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 16:19-31

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Revelation 1:18

I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

INTRO: Most people do not want to hear a sermon about hell.

It is the preacher’s responsibility to tell the people about hell and how they can avoid spending eternity there.

Ezekiel 33:6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

Ezekiel 33:8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Ezekiel 3:20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Today I am going to preach about the reality of hell and I hope that if you are here without Christ as your Savior; that the Holy Spirit will convict you and that you will turn to Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 48:10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the Lord deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.

I. THERE ARE THOSE WHO DOUBT THE EXISTENCE OF HELL.

NOTE: There are those who ask, “How can a loving God send anyone to hell?”

God sends no one to hell, they choose hell by denying the salvation God offers to all who would come.

ILL: The guaranteed cure of cancer.

A blank check from Bill Gates

The Word of God tells us that He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked.

Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Hell was created for the devil and his angels.

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Those who claim there is no hell will know for eternity one second after death.

Pascal’s Wager: “It is better to believe there is a God and be wrong, than to believe there is no God and be wrong.”

Many who claim to be believers will suffer hell.

Matthew 7:21-23 "Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to me as 'Lord,' but they still won't enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey my Father in heaven.  On judgment day many will tell me, 'Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.'  But I will reply, 'I never knew you. Go away; the things you did were unauthorized.'

Matthew 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

II. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH ABOUT HELL?

   A. HELL IS A LONELY PLACE.

NOTE: The rich man seems to be alone.

   B. HELL IS A PLACE OF TORMENT.

Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

NOTE: There are those who claim that hell will a place to party.

  • Jesus said hell would be a furnace of fire.

Matthew 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

  • Jesus said hell would last forever.

Mark 9:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

  • The Word of God tells us that those who served the devil here on earth will spend eternity with him.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

III. HOW CAN WE ESCAPE ETERNITY IN HELL?

    A. WE ARE ALL BOUND TO SPEND ETERNITY IN HELL.

  1. We are all sinners.

 Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

NOTE: Because we are all sinners we are faced with the reality that we are bound for hell with everyone else.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

   B. GOD HAS PROVIDED A WAY OF ESCAPE.

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

CONCLUSION: Both heaven and hell are awaiting you, but you must choose in which one you will spend eternity.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

ARE YOU A MOON OR A LAMP?”

 SCRIPTURE READING: John 1:1-9

 SCRIPTURE TEXT: Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

INTRO: Have you even seen the full moon.  What is it that you usually say?

Have you ever had to light a lamp in the darkness?  What is it you usually say?

Neither the moon nor the lamp has light in themselves.

The light from the moon is reflected while the light from the lamp is real.

The light from the moon brings praise to the moon, the light from the lamp brings praise to the light.

Clouds and fog can hide the light from the moon, but the light from the lamp is not hidden as long as it shines, and the chimney is clean.

The size and brightness of the moon’s light is determined by the earth’s position between the sun and the moon.

The more the world comes between the sun and the moon, the lesser the light.

The light of the lamp is determined by the amount of oil is being burned.

Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit.

The more we allow the Holy Spirit to consume our lives, (the wick) the more we will shine for Jesus.

The light we shine must bring honor and glory to God not to us.

I.  WE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

    How can this happen?

NOTE: The Bible tells us that God is light.

1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Jesus declared the He was the light of the world.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Jesus said we are the light of the world.

Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

How do we as Believer become the light of the world?

    Do we become God?

When we have Jesus we have the light of the World within us.

Unlike the moon that only reflects the light of the sun; we have the light (Jesus) residing within us.

II. WE ARE TO LET OUR LIGHT SHINE.

NOTE: Jesus refers to us as light in the world two different ways.

  1. As a city set on a hill. (our church)

Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

NOTE: How can we as a church shine our light in our community?

 ILL: The church without lamps.

Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

NOTE: It is important that we gather together to renew our oil and to join with others as we share our light.

But as a church we do not shine our light unless we are willing to go into the darkness of this world.

Some of the ways we share our light in our community:

·         Senior on the go

·         American Legion

·         Music and Drama Camp

·         Onalaska Days

  1. As a candle.

Matthew 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

NOTE: The Believes’ place is to bring light into a darken world.

Acts 13:47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

 Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

The world dwells in darkness and we must bring it light.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

III. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF US BEING A LAMP IN A DARKENED WORLD?

NOTE: Jesus gave us two reasons to take our light into the world.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

1.  To show our good works.

NOTE: A sermon lived is far greater than a sermon preached.

James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

2. To bring glory and honor to God.

Titus 2:7 (NIV) In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness

Titus 3:8 (NIV) This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

1 Peter 2:12 (NIV) Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

CONCLUSION: We must be very careful to make sure our good works point to God and not to ourselves.

Are we a moon or a lamp?

DANIEL, A GREAT MAN OF INTEGRITY

 SCRIPTURE READING: DANIEL 6:1-28

 SCRIPTURE TEXT: DANIEL 6:5 (GW)

These men said, "We won't find anything to accuse this man, Daniel, unless we find it in his religious practices."

INTRO:  In today’s society we have many heroes that ought not to be considered so.

In your eyes what makes a person someone you highly admire?

Florida State University's sports information department had big news for Clay Shiver early this year [1995]: Playboy magazine had selected him for its preseason All-America football team. But quicker than he snaps the ball, the 6-foot-2, 280-pound center said, "No thanks."

"I don't want to let anyone down, and number one on that list is God."

Citation: Ken Walker, Christian Reader; "Ordinary Heroes."

“The highest reward for man's toil is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it.”

Citation: John Ruskin, Leadership, Vol. 7, no. 4.

The world today needs godly men and women to set an example how we should live.

1 Timothy 4:12 (GW) Don't let anyone look down on you for being young. Instead, make your speech, behavior, love, faith, and purity an example for other believers.

Daniel was that sort of man.  He was a great man of integrity.

There are three lessons we can learn from the life of Daniel:

  1. We can live a life of integrity in the midst of difficult circumstances (sinful world).

  2. Living a life of integrity will bring opposition.

  3. Living a life of integrity will produce great rewards.

 I.  YOU CAN LIVE A LIFE OF INTEGRITY IN THE MIDST OF DIFFICULT

    CIRCUMSTANCES (sinful world).

NOTE:  There are those who contend that you can’t live a Christian life while surrounded by ungodly people.

ILL:  AARON.  Exodus 32:21-24 And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?  And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.  For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.  And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

SAUL.  1 Samuel 13:8-12 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.  And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.  And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

Yet God expects us to live the Christian life in spite of the wickedness of this world.

There are those who would allow the tug of this world to draw them away from their commitment to God.

 ILL: Demas.  II Timothy 4:10

Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

ILL: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

 Daniel did.

 ILL:  Michael Jordan

In his book Lessons from a Father to His Sons, Senator John Ashcroft writes:

“Until 1997 Michael Jordan, indisputably the leading player in the NBA for over a decade, was never the highest paid player. When asked why he did not do what so many other players do—hold out on their contracts until they get more money—Michael replied, "I have always honored my word. I went for security. I had six-year contracts, and I always honored them. People said I was underpaid, but when I signed on the dotted line, I gave my word."

Three years later, after several highly visible players reneged on their contracts, a reporter asked Michael once again about being underpaid, and he explained that if his kids saw their dad breaking a promise, how could he continue training them to keep their word? By not asking for a contract renegotiation, Michael Jordan spoke volumes to his children. He told them, "You stand by your word, even when that might go against you." His silence became a roar.”

II.  LIVING A LIFE OF INTEGRITY CAN BRING OPPOSITION.

NOTE:  Those who seek to do ungodly acts do not want godly people around them.

John 3:19-20 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Acts 16:16-24 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: the same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.  And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers, and brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, and teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.  And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.  And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely: who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

There always seems to be someone who wants to drag down those who seek to live a life of integrity.

III.  LIVING A LIFE OF INTEGRITY WILL PRODUCE GREAT REWARDS.

NOTE: The man most admired by the American public over the last four decades is evangelist Billy Graham. For forty years, The Gallup Organization has polled American adults to determine the ten men they admire most, and Graham has been named to the list an astounding 32 times.

NOTE: God does not always deliver us from our trials the way we think He should.

Why did God deliver the three Hebrew Children from fiery furnace but John the Baptist was beheaded?

Why was Daniel delivered from the lions but Stephen was stoned?

    B.  HIS ENEMIES WERE DESTROYED.

NOTE: The ungodly may seem to prosper but in the end they will be destroyed.

Psalm 73:1-3, 12-17 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.  But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.  For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked... Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.  For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.  If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.  When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

    C.  THE KING ACKNOWLEDGED THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD.

Daniel 6:25-27 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.  I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.  He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

    D.  DANIEL PROSPERED IN THE KINGDOM.

Daniel 6:28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

NOTE: We might not prosper in the physical kingdoms of this world as Daniel did, but we will prosper in the Heavenly Kingdom to come.

    E.  GOD USES DANIEL GREATLY.

NOTE: God will use those who live their Christian life with integrity.
