YOU’RE THE TARGET OF MALICIOUS GOSSIP
SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 5
SCRIPTURE TEXT: Psalm 5:7-8 (GW)
I will enter your house because of your great mercy.
Out of reverence for you, I will bow toward your
holy temple. O
LORD, lead me in your righteousness because
of those who spy on me. Make your way in front of me
Have you ever been the target of malicious gossip?
Has someone trying to destroy your life, both
physical emotional and mentally?

who hated me had attacked me, then I could hide from
him. But it is you, my equal, my best friend, one I
knew so well! We used to talk to each other in
complete confidence and walk into God's house with
the festival crowds.

Teach me thy

E. DAVID ASKED GOD FOR JUSTICE
Psalm 5:9-10 (GW)
Nothing in their mouths is truthful.
Destruction comes from their hearts. Their throats
are open graves. They flatter with their tongues.
Condemn them, O God. Let their own schemes be their
downfall. Throw them out for their many crimes
because they have rebelled against you.
David turned everything over to God

BECOMING LIKE CHILDREN
SCRIPTURE TEXT: Matthew 18:3 (TLB)
Unless you turn to God from
your sins and become as little children, you will
never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.
The disciples were concerned with who would be the
greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus turned to the disciples and showed them the
important question is not who would be the greatest
but who would be able to enter into Heaven.
I. WE ARE TO BECOME LIKE CHILDREN

Mark 10:13-14 (GW)
Some people brought little children to Jesus to have
him hold them. But the disciples told the people not

“BURIED IN CHRIST”
READING: ROMANS 6:1-14
SCRIPTURE TEXT: Romans 6:11-14 (NLT)
So you should consider yourselves dead to sin
and able to live for the glory of God through Christ
not let sin control the way you live; do not give in
to sinful desires.
Do not let any part of your
body become an instrument of evil to serve sin.
Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you
were dead, but now you have new life. So use your
whole body as an instrument to do what is right for
the glory of God.
is no longer your master, for you no longer live
under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live
under the freedom of God’s grace.
Water baptism is often one of the most misunderstood
Sacraments of the Church.
There are those who believe that you are not
truly saved unless you have been baptized.
There are those who believe that you are
baptized into a church or denomination.
There are those who believe that when a person
is baptized it makes them a Christian.
There are those who believe that Water Baptism
is a matter of choice.
All these teaching are unscriptural and false.
wish to share what Water Baptism is not and then
what it is.
I. WHAT WATER BAPTISM IS NOT.
WATER BAPTISM IS NOT SALVATION.
Salvation is only through the Blood of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV)
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with
corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your
vain conversation received by tradition from your
fathers; but with the precious blood of
Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without
1 John 1:7, 9 (KJV)
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another, and the blood
of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin …
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
If we say that Water Baptism is needed to complete
our Salvation, then we are saying the Blood of Jesus
Christ was not enough.
BIBLICAL BAPTISM IS NOT BEING BAPTIZED INTO A CHURCH
Romans 6:3 (KJV) Know
ye not, that so many of us as were baptized
into Jesus Christ were baptized into his
Water Baptism is not just a physical experience it
must be a spiritual commitment in making Jesus not
only Savior but also Lord.
A person can be baptized into a local congregation
without being baptized in the Christ.
A PERSON DOSE NOT BECOME A CHRISTIAN JUST BECAUSE
THEY ARE BAPTIZED.
Baptism must follow Salvation; you do not bury
someone before they are dead.
Mark 16:16 (NLT)
Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved.
But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.
Acts 2:38 (NLT) Peter
replied, "Each of you must turn from your sins and
turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you
will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
WATER BAPTISM IS NOT AN OPTION WE CAN PICK AND
Jesus commanded His disciples to baptize all those
who became Believers.
Matthew 28:19 (NLT)
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son
and the Holy Spirit.
said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of
you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy
II. WHAT WATER BAPTISM IS.
Salvation removes the penalty of sin, Water Baptism
removes the power of sin, and the Baptism of the
Holy Spirit gives us the power to live victorious
Colossians 2:12 (NLT)
For you were buried with Christ when you were
baptized. And with him you were raised to a new life
because you trusted the mighty power of God, who
raised Christ from the dead.
WATER BAPTISM IS THE SEPARATION FROM THE WORLD AND
By being baptized into Jesus we are making Him Lord
and Master of our life and we no longer seeking to
please ourselves but we seeking to please Him.
1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If
anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is
not in him.
For everything in the world--the cravings of
sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of
what he has and does--comes not from the Father but
from the world.
The world and its desires pass away, but the
man who does the will of God lives forever.
We are dead to the world but alive to Christ.
WATER BAPTISM IS AN ACT OF OBEDIENCE.
Matthew 7:21 (NLT) "Not
all people who sound religious are really godly.
They may refer to me as 'Lord,' but they still won't
enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is
whether they obey my Father in heaven.
James 4:17 (NLT)
Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and
then not do it.
WATER BAPTISM IS A SYMBOL OF OUR COMMITMENT TO
Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is
Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him
from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you believe
and are justified, and it is with your mouth that
you confess and are saved.
Mark 8:38 (KJV)
Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my
words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of
him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he
cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy
WATER BAPTISM IS BEING BAPTIZED INTO JESUS CHRIST.
The Greek word us for baptism throughout the New
Testament is, “bapitzo” which means,
Jesus was immersed.
Matthew 3:16 (KJV) And
Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out
of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto
him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove, and lighting upon him:
The mode of Baptism is not nearly as important as
the attitude and spiritual condition of the one
Romans 6:3-6 (NIV) Or
don't you know that all of us who were baptized into
Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
We were therefore buried with him through
baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was
raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, we too may live a new life.
If we have been united with him like this in
his death, we will certainly also be united with him
in his resurrection.
For we know that our old self was crucified
with him so that the body of sin might be done away
with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--
Romans 8:11 (NLT) The
Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives
in you. And just as he raised Christ from the dead,
he will give life to your mortal body by this same
Spirit living within you.
Water Baptism is a very essential part of our
Christian walk with God and if we fail to obey His
Word in following Him is Water Baptism we are
denying ourselves the power to live a victorious
